Description:
Our client is one of the world’s leading investment firms. They are looking for Vice President to join their Equity Manager Research Team; this team makes allocation decisions for Long-Short Equity, Activism and Event-Driven Equity. The candidate will analyze, evaluate and engage with hedge fund managers based in North America, as well as work on the fund’s co-investment fund.
Responsibilities:
- Working with the team to source and perform due diligence on prospective hedge fund investments within the Equity space. This will include meetings with the hedge fund manager and their team, reference checks, strategy research and quantitative track record analysis
- Monitoring of existing hedge fund relationships, which include regular conversations with different levels of contacts at the firm, tracking key positions, themes and exposures in the portfolio, assessing the impact of any organizational changes and continuously challenging the validity of the firm’s investment thesis
- Working with the firm’s co-investment fund and leading hedge fund managers to source, diligence and underwrite co-investment opportunities, leveraging the firm’s various groups where appropriate
- Developing and utilizing a personal network to source new investments and assist in a deeper understanding of existing investements
- Thinking critically about how various market factors impact Equity strategies broadly and making recommendations regarding different styles of investing, given the current environment and future expectations
- Thinking creatively about ways to improve the team’s existing due diligence process, helping ensure quality, consistency and thoroughness in their approach
Requirements:
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Superior communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write effectively
- A desire to work in a team environment often under pressure
- Strong financial modeling skills and the ability to deconstruct a hedge fund’s historic returns
- A passion for equity markets, and an understanding of different approaches within the asset class
- An ability to manage ad hoc projects independently and to completion
- 5-10 years of relevant working experience, including a minimum of 3 years of security/company valuation experience, preferably a hedge fund, private equity firm or top-tier banking program, preferably at a fundamental L/S equity fund
Base Salary Range: $150,000 – $200,000
